Limousins ‘Drive’ Their Way to Supreme Champion of KILE Beef Show

HARRISBURG — The spotlight shone on the Limousin breed at the 2009 Keystone International Livestock Exposition (KILE) with a heifer and bull earning supreme honors. Kyle Delaplaine of Gettysburg, Pa., exhibited the winning Limousin heifer and Kyle Smith of Java Village, N.Y., showed the breed’s top male.

Delaplaine’s supreme champion female was EXLR Luvly 291T. a late yearling female. He is the 15-year-old son of Jim and Annette Delaplaine who have shown at KILE for eight years.

Smith’s supreme champion bull was SPRNG CRKS Urlacher 311U, a spring yearling bull. Smith has exhibited at KILE since 1997 and this is his first Supreme Champion win.

More than 1,000 head of beef cattle passed through the show arena during the week, representing 12 different breeds. A panel of 12 judges, one representing each of the breeds, was selected to choose supreme beef female and bull winners.

EMM Sales & Service Inc. of Brownstown, Pa. sponsored the supreme champion awards with the top female receiving the year-long use of a cattle trailer and a $1,000 cash prize to the winning bull.
