Open Class Dairy Shows Held at the Maryland State Fair

TIMONIUM, Md. — A full schedule included seven open class dairy breed shows and two futurities Thursday and Friday, Sept. 3 and 4, at the Maryland State Fair.
Pomp and circumstance surrounded both the Brown Swiss and Holstein futurity shows. Cow bells and yodeling were the highlight of the Swiss show, while spotlights and convertibles carrying show officials and guests were featured at the Holstein show.
Winning the Brown Swiss Futurity Thursday was the entry by Allen, Tammy and A.J. Bassler of Old Mill Farm in Upperville, Va. Blessing Parker Fanny - ET was also the overall junior winner. Matthew Lenhart of Thurmont was the highest placing Maryland junior with OVH Turmoil Lola. Old Mill Dreamon exhibited by the Basslers was the genetic merit and best bred and owned winner.
Greenwood Acres Dun Celeste exhibited by Savage-Leigh Farm in Knoxville was Thursday night’s Holstein Futurity winner. Chip Savage of Savage-Leigh was also the sweepstakes winner. Kenny Stambaugh of Pheasant Echo’s Farm in Westminster was the junior Futurity winner with Pheasant Echo’s Temper Red.
The winning Holstein futurity winner went on to capture the supreme champion title of the open show for Savage-Leigh Farm. The reserve supreme champion went to the Red and White Holstein champion, Hilrose Advent Autumn Red, exhibited by Thomas Mercuro of Rocky Ridge.
In the open class Ayrshire show, junior champion honors went to the spring yearling heifer, Maple Dell Herman Jazzie, exhibited by the Patrick family of Maple Dell Farm in Woodbine. Reserve junior champion was awarded to the summer yearling heifer exhibited by the Patrick family, Maple Dell Shipley Nikki.
Senior and grand champion went to the winning 4-year-old exhibited by Palmyra Farm of Hagerstown, Palmyra Tri-Star Brooke - ET. Reserve senior and reserve grand champion was won by the second-place 4-year-old exhibited by Emmitsburg’s Michael Valentine, Vales-Pride Soldier Exhale.
Premier breeder and exhibitor banners went to Maple Dell Farm.
Junior champion in the open Brown Swiss show went to the fall heifer calf exhibited by Nichelle Upton of Thurmont, Dublin-Hills Precious, and the reserve champion was the fall yearling heifer, Dublin-Hills Tootie, exhibited by Thomas Remsberg of Middletown.
Senior and grand champion went to the 4-year-old exhibited by Allen and Tammy Bassler of Upperville, Va., Old Mill C Tart - ET, and reserve senior and reserve grand champion went to the Brown Swiss Futurity winner exhibited by Allen, Tammy and A.J. Bassler. Premier breeder and exhibitor went to the Basslers.
In the open class Guernsey show, junior champion was awarded to the winter yearling heifer, Warwick Manor Lance Christmas, and reserve junior champion went to the summer yearling heifer, Warwick Manor Lucas Star, exhibited by Kevin and Dina Stoltzfus of East Earl, Pa.
The senior and grand champion winner was the 5-year-old, Warwick Manor Abe Darla, exhibited by Kevin and Dina Stoltzfus, and the senior 2-year-old exhibited by Beth Clark of New Paris, Pa., Misty Meadows Archie Sis, was named reserve senior and reserve grand champion. Premier breeder and exhibitor was awarded to Kevin and Dina Stoltzfus.
In the open class Holstein show junior champion was awarded to Ms Elmvue Durham Kenya - ET, the fall yearling exhibited by Jennifer Hill of Emmitsburg, and reserve junior champion was awarded to the spring yearling heifer exhibited by Brian Ehrhardt of Baldwin, Kingsmill Ashlyn Audery - ET.
The senior and grand champion went to the Holstein Futurity winner exhibited by Chip Savage, and the reserve and reserve grand champion went to the second-place Futurity cow, MS Durchan Lady Allana, exhibited by Robert and Mary Smith of My Lady’s Manor Farm in Monkton. The Savage family of Savage-Leigh Farm was awarded the premier breeder and exhibitor banners.
The junior champion female of the open Jersey show was the summer yearling heifer exhibited by Ehrhardt Farms, Inc., of Baldwin, Kipps Amadeo Anastasia.
Reserve junior champion went to the second-place summer yearling exhibited by Tom and Mandy Arrowsmith of Peach Bottom, Pa., Hillacres Envy Entice.
The senior and grand champion went to the longtime production cow, Pleasant Valley Prime Heather, exhibited by Wayne and Allen Stiles of Spring Valley Farm in Westminster, and the entry by Waverly Farm of Clearbrook, Va., 5-year-old Dalemcee-J Counciller Tauntra, won the reserve senior and reserve grand champion rosette. Wayne and Allen Stiles won the premier exhibitor banner, and Tom and Mandy Arrowsmith were the winners of the premier breeder banner.
John Miller of White Hall exhibited the spring yearling, Johns Rosetta Rose, that was named junior champion of the open Milking Shorthorn show, while the fall yearling entry from Glenn Crowl of Airville, Pa., R-Generation Bountey Marla, was named reserve junior champion. The senior and grand champion female was the junior 3-year-old, Joy-El Logic Tippy, exhibited by Carlyn Crowl of Delta, Pa. who also exhibited the senior 2-year-old, Joy-El Frolic Lola, that was named reserve senior and reserve grand champion.
The junior champion of the open class Red and White Holstein show was the fall heifer calf exhibited by Jennifer Hill of Thurmont, MD-Hillbrook Sunburst Red - ET, and the reserve junior champion was the spring yearling heifer exhibited by Jason Myers of Windsor Manor farm in New Windsor, Windsor Manor Raindrop Red. The 4-year-old exhibited by Thomas Mercuro of Rocky Ridge, Hilrose Advent Autumn Red, was the senior and grand champion, and the senior 2-year-old, Greenlea Ad Mae Red - ET, exhibited by Matt and Kelli Welsh of Knoxville was the reserve senior and reserve grand champion.
Windsor Manor Farm was the premier breeder and exhibitor of the show.
